Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), announced that her email account has been hacked. In a security notice released on Friday, she urged members of the public to disregard any messages sent from the compromised email address. Dabiri-Erewa stated that she may not be able to respond to emails during the period of the breach, which has resulted in a backlog of thousands of messages. This incident raises concerns about cybersecurity and the impersonation of public officials through compromised digital platforms. The hacking of her email follows a previous incident where her Twitter account was hacked on April 7, 2023. NIDCOM is actively working to retrieve the hacked Twitter account and has plans to trace, arrest, and prosecute the hackers involved. Dabiri-Erewa emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding the situation and advised recipients to ignore any emails purportedly sent from her account until full control is regained.
