NIDCOM Protests Inhumane Deportation of Nigerians from Mozambique

The Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) has expressed strong objections to the deportation of 42 Nigerians from Mozambique, highlighting violations of due process. According to a statement issued on Tuesday by NIDCOM's spokesperson, Abdur Rahman Balogun, the deportations were described as inhumane and a violation of individual rights.

The deportees arrived in Nigeria in three batches on March 24, 26, and 27, 2026, via South African Airways flight SA60 and Ethiopian Airlines. NIDCOM reported that two Nigerians, who are married to Mozambican citizens, remain in Mozambique.

The commission criticized the Mozambican authorities for conducting random arrests and detaining individuals despite their possession of valid residency documents. Allegations include the confiscation of money and mobile applications during detention, with reports of 42 Nigerians arrested across various business locations.

NIDCOM disclosed that 13 of the 42 Nigerians were deported earlier, while 29 others remained in custody at the time of the statement.
