Edo State Celebrates Team Edo's Victory at Niger Delta Games

On Tuesday, Governor Okpebholo of Edo State hosted members of Team Edo at the government house in Benin City to celebrate their triumph at the second edition of the Niger Delta Games. Edo State emerged as the overall champion, finishing at the top of the medal table with a total of 111 medals, which included 52 gold, 34 silver, and 25 bronze.

The event was sponsored by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). Governor Okpebholo commended the athletes, coaches, and sports administrators for their discipline and determination, emphasizing the importance of investing in young sports talent.

He reiterated his earlier promise to reward the victorious athletes with 30 million naira. The governor highlighted that this victory marks a significant turning point in the state's sports history, being the first major multi-sport tournament win in 24 years.

Amadin Desmond Enabulele, the chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, noted that early budget approval allowed the athletes to prepare effectively for the competition.
