Team Edo Wins 2026 Niger Delta Games, Ends 24-Year Drought

Team Edo emerged victorious at the 2026 Niger Delta Games, breaking a 24-year title drought since the last major tournament win in 2002. The team secured a total of 111 medals, comprising 52 gold, 34 silver, and 25 bronze, showcasing outstanding performances across various events, particularly in weightlifting, boxing, and swimming.

Edo State finished first, while Delta State, the defending champions, placed second with 39 gold, 29 silver, and 34 bronze medals. Bayelsa secured third place with 25 gold, 24 silver, and 26 bronze medals.

The closing ceremony took place at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, where Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sport Commission, praised the athletes for their courage and unity.

Senator Mondai Okpebholo emphasized the need for continued support for the team, highlighting the importance of grassroots talent discovery and the positive impact of the games on the state.
