Niger State Calls for Better Data on Women's Health Research

Murtala Bagana, the Commissioner for Health in Niger State, highlighted the lack of adequate data for women's health research during a stakeholder engagement. He emphasized the need for prioritizing women's menstrual and reproductive health through evidence-based research and policy leadership.

Bagana called on the federal government to deploy resources and funding to build a comprehensive database that would enhance research on health conditions affecting women. The collaboration with Youteru Health and White Ribbon Alliance Nigeria aims to address long-standing health challenges faced by women in Niger State.

Dr. Fatou Wuri, Executive Director of White Ribbon Alliance Nigeria, and Tont Ibray noted that issues related to African women's health are often shrouded in secrecy due to inadequate data. They stressed the importance of tailoring research to African women's womb health, as Nigerian women tend to develop fibroids at a younger age compared to their Western counterparts.

The findings from this research will be presented at the National Council on Health meeting scheduled for November 2026.
