Nigeria's Beach Volleyball Team Faces Mozambique in Semis

The Nigeria women's beach volleyball team is set to face Mozambique in the semi-finals of the 2026 African Beach Volleyball Championship on Saturday in Alexandria, Egypt. Esther Mbah and Pamela Bawa secured Nigeria's place in the semi-finals by overcoming Morocco 2-1 in a quarter-final match held at Abu Heif Beach on Friday.

The Nigerian duo won the first set 21-17, lost the second set 15-21, and clinched the decisive third set 15-11. This victory followed their earlier 2-0 win against the hosts, Egypt, in the Round of 16, where they dominated with scores of 21-17 and 21-16.

Nigeria's coach, Kayode Ajilore, praised Mbah and Bawa for their resilience and emphasized the importance of not underestimating Mozambique. He stated, “The girls have proved why they are elite athletes and have improved over the years.” The championship offers the winners a direct qualification ticket to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
