Nigeria's Tinubu Calls for Unity Against Xenophobia

During the 69th ordinary session of ECOWAS, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria urged African nations to unite against xenophobia in South Africa. He called for a collective condemnation of the ongoing xenophobic attacks and reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to the newly developed ECOWAS compact aimed at regional integration.

Tinubu emphasized the need for West African leaders to intensify actions against insecurity and unconstitutional governance, reflecting the compact's goals. He highlighted the importance of promoting constitutional governance, rule of law, and democratic principles in the region.

Additionally, Tinubu discussed the role of technology in shaping the future of nations and expressed satisfaction with the compact's focus on scientific and technological innovation. He also reaffirmed Nigeria's dedication to advancing gender equality and supporting youth entrepreneurship.

The meeting included contributions from ECOWAS Chairman Julius Maada Bio and UN Deputy Secretary-General Hajiya Amina Mohammed, who stressed the need for international support in combating terrorism in the Sahel region.
