Tinubu Condemns Xenophobia at ECOWAS Session

During the 69th ordinary session of ECOWAS, President Bola Tinubu condemned the xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa, labeling the behavior as unacceptable. He addressed fellow leaders, including Sierra Leone's President, and highlighted the need for the African Union to send a clear message against such actions.

Tinubu noted that Nigeria and Ghana are among the ECOWAS member countries most affected by these attacks, which have led to the killing, maiming, and looting of Nigerian citizens in South Africa. He mentioned that the Nigerian government has evacuated over 4,490 citizens in seven batches due to the violence.

Additionally, Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to a newly developed ECOWAS compact aimed at strengthening regional solidarity, economic integration, and sustainable development across West Africa. He assured leaders of Nigeria's dedication to removing trade barriers and improving cross-border infrastructure to facilitate free movement and create a favorable business environment.
