Nigeria and Chad Strengthen Security Cooperation Against Terrorism

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria announced a commitment to strengthen security ties with Chad during a meeting with Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby at the State House in Abuja. The leaders engaged in bilateral talks aimed at addressing emerging security threats, particularly terrorism and banditry in the Lake Chad region.

Tinubu emphasized the critical partnership between Nigeria and Chad within the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), which was established to confront transnational threats in the Lake Chad Basin. He noted that both countries share a common responsibility to secure their borders and protect their citizens.

The visit provided an opportunity to reinforce bilateral ties and deepen collaboration to tackle insecurity affecting both nations. Tinubu highlighted the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Chad, which has been built on the legacy of previous leaders promoting stability and economic growth in the region.
