Nigeria Commits to Strengthening Community Health Systems in Africa

Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community health systems in Africa, recognizing the crucial role of Community Health Workers (CHWs) in achieving health goals. At the African CDC 2nd Taskforce Meeting, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Iziaq Adekunle Salako, emphasized the importance of investing in CHWs to enhance maternal and child health, prevent diseases, and ensure universal health coverage.

Salako highlighted Nigeria's leadership in supporting CHWs and called for increased training, professionalization, and integration of CHWs into the healthcare system. The Minister's remarks emphasized the significance of the African Union's decision to prioritize CHWs and the launch of the Continental Coordination Mechanism (CCM) in 2023.
