Nigeria Reaffirms Support for South Sudan Peace Efforts

Nigeria has declared renewed support for the South Sudan peace process, with President Bola Tinubu pledging commitment to swiftly implement provisions of the revitalized agreement aimed at resolving the conflict in South Sudan. During a meeting at the African Union (AU) high-level ad hoc committee summit, Tinubu called for the immediate and unconditional release of Riek Machar, South Sudan's first vice president and a key opposition figure.

The summit, chaired by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, took place on the margins of the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Tinubu urged African leaders to prioritize the interests of South Sudan's stakeholders and conduct inclusive peace processes.

He highlighted the need for unity among South Sudan's elite to achieve a successful transitional program. The meeting included various critical stakeholders, and Nigeria pledged full infrastructural operational support to enhance maritime security in the region.
