Nigeria and Denmark Sign Livestock Cooperation Pact

On June 7, 2026, Nigeria and Denmark signed a new livestock cooperation pact in Abuja, reaffirming their commitment to advancing sustainable livestock development, food safety, and animal health. The agreement, a Letter of Intent (LOI) for Phase II of the Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) program, aims to transform the livestock sector, improve food and nutrition security, and strengthen disease prevention systems.

Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Nigerian Minister of Livestock Development, described the signing as a reaffirmation of partnership and a model for international cooperation. The partnership has already delivered significant gains, including training for 100 Nigerian officials in critical areas such as food safety management and animal disease surveillance.

The Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Jen Ol Bach Hansen, noted that Phase II will focus on field-based interventions, disease prevention, and biosecurity surveillance systems. The ceremony was attended by key officials, including Dr.

Chinyer Ijeoma Akujobi, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
