Nigeria's Livestock Sector Boosted by AFD Partnership

On July 10, 2026, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to strengthening its collaboration with the French Development Agency (AFD) during a courtesy visit from AFD's Country Director for Nigeria, Mr. Jacki Amprou, at the Ministry's headquarters in Abuja.

The partnership aims to accelerate the transformation of Nigeria's livestock sector, particularly through the implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's national ranch policy. The proposed collaboration will focus on developing select grazing reserves as proof of concept ranches to reduce transhumance and improve livestock productivity while promoting peace, security, and sustainable rural development.

The partnership will complement various initiatives, including the Nigeria Livestock Growth Accelerator Strategy (NLGA) and the Nigeria Livestock Master Plan (NLMP). AFD has expressed readiness to provide financial and technical support, leveraging expertise from the wider French ecosystem to mobilize relevant stakeholders for advancing the sector.
