Nigeria Competes at World Athletics Relays in Botswana

The 8th edition of the World Athletics Relays commenced in Gaborone, Botswana, featuring 743 athletes from 40 countries. Team Nigeria faces significant challenges in the men's 4x400m heat against strong relay nations such as the Netherlands, Jamaica, Poland, China, Japan, and Canada.

Nigeria must secure a top-two finish in their heat or be among the two fastest non-automatic qualifiers to advance to the finals and secure a spot for the 2027 World Championships. The Netherlands is favored with a personal best of 3:07.43, while Nigeria's best is 3:11.99.

The men's 4x100m team, including athletes like Enoch Adegoke and Chidera Ezeakor, also faces formidable competition. Nigeria's Director General of the Nigeria Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, emphasized the importance of the competition and urged athletes to represent the country with pride, highlighting the significance of relays in Nigeria's sports culture.
