Nigeria Secures Four World Championships Tickets in Gaborone

Nigeria successfully secured four tickets to the World Championships during the campaign held in Gaborone, Botswana. The mixed 4x100m relay team, featuring athletes Samson Nathaniel, Mari Kudoro, Chidi Okezi, and Patience Okon, achieved an African record with a time of 3:12.88, finishing second behind South Africa, who won with 3:12.77.

The women's 4x100m relay team, consisting of Rosemari Nwankwo, Obi Chukwuka, Maria Thompson, and Omokw Miracl Ezechukwu, placed second in their repechage with a season's best of 42.94, qualifying for the 2027 World Athletics Championships. However, the men's 4x100m team finished third in their repechage heat and did not qualify.

The men's 4x400m team also missed qualification by a narrow margin, finishing with a time of 3:01.43, just milliseconds shy of the qualifying spot. Despite some disappointments, Nigeria secured a total of three tickets for the upcoming championships.
