Nigeria, UK Enhance Defense Cooperation in Abuja Meeting

On Tuesday, Nigeria's Minister of Defence, General Christoph Gwabin Musa (rtd), reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the United Kingdom to address evolving security challenges. During a meeting at the Ship House in Abuja, General Musa received UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell and his delegation as part of the 4th UK-Nigeria Security and Defence Partnership (SDP4) dialogue.

General Musa emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral ties, particularly in counter-terrorism and intelligence sharing, to stabilize the region. The discussions included a comprehensive review of the existing memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the nations, focusing on modernizing security protocols, expanding technical training, and enhancing the capacity of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The high-level summit, co-led by Nigeria's National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu and UK NSA Jonathan Powell, successfully set a robust agenda for bilateral security cooperation extending to 2026 and beyond.
