Nigeria Emerges as China's Top Engineering Market in Africa

During a seminar in Beijing, Li Hengtian, Deputy Director of the China International Communication Group, announced that Nigeria is China's largest engineering contracting market in Africa. Nigeria ranks as China's second-largest export market in Africa and its third-largest trade partner on the continent.

The seminar aimed to strengthen communication and mutual understanding between the two countries, highlighting the importance of storytelling in media. Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie emphasized the need to share diverse narratives to break stereotypes.

Li noted that Nigeria plays a central role in China's global economic outreach, with major infrastructure projects like the Lagos Light Rail and Abuja Rail Mass Transit showcasing deepening cooperation. The relationship, formalized in 1971, is seen as a cornerstone of China's engagement in Africa, with Nigeria being a key pillar in the Belt and Road Initiative.

The event also focused on the role of media in shaping perceptions and fostering collaboration between Nigerian and Chinese practitioners.
