David Mark Warns Nigeria Drifting Towards One-Party Rule

David Mark, the national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), expressed concerns that Nigeria is drifting towards a one-party rule, particularly criticizing the All Progressives Congress (APC) for weakening opposition parties. Speaking at an opposition summit in Ibadan on Saturday, Mark highlighted that ongoing political developments aim to limit the Nigerian populace's ability to freely choose their leaders, consolidating power within a single dominant party structure.

He warned that this trend poses a significant threat to the democratic balance in Nigeria, as there is no effective check on the ruling party. Mark raised alarms about the declining credibility of elections and public confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) due to perceived lack of neutrality.

He urged opposition parties to prioritize unity and coalition-building to effectively challenge the entrenched political system and safeguard the democratic process, emphasizing that corrective steps must be taken to ensure credible elections.
