Politicians Warn Against One-Party System in Nigeria

Osita Okechukwu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), cautioned against the potential establishment of a one-party system in Nigeria during a discussion with journalists in Enugu. He specifically pointed to the actions of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alleging that they are promoting a shift away from a multi-party system.

Okechukwu emphasized that the ADC should be held accountable for sowing the seeds of a one-party state, which could undermine Nigeria's democratic framework. He referenced the 2022 presidential primaries of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) as a critical moment that highlighted the risks of political hegemony.

Okechukwu also criticized Dele Momodu for promoting divisive narratives and reminded him of the historical importance of adhering to zoning principles in Nigerian politics. The discussion underscored the need for unity and equitable representation across Nigeria's diverse regions as the country approaches the 2027 presidential elections.
