Nigeria's Modular Refineries Achieve 95.72% Utilization

In July 2026, Nigeria's modular refining sector demonstrated enhanced performance, as reported by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). Edo Refinery led with an impressive 95.72% capacity utilization, up from 88.67% in June, marking a 7.05 percentage point increase.

Waltersmith and Aradel refineries also improved, with Waltersmith's utilization rising to 70.42% and Aradel's to 36.32%. Combined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) production from all three refineries reached 0.590 million litres per day, a 23.4% increase from June's 0.478 million litres per day.

Edo Refinery's AGO output increased to 0.088 million litres per day, while domestic supply rose to 0.107 million litres per day. Despite improvements, Waltersmith's overall utilization remained about 25 percentage points lower than Edo's.

Additionally, Clarivo Oil and Gas Ltd announced plans to construct a new refinery, projected to be operational within five years, subject to regulatory approvals.
