According to the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Nigeria surpassed its OPEC crude oil quota for a third straight month during July. The nation generated approximately 1.505 million barrels per day in crude oil output, edging above the 1.5 million barrel daily threshold mandated by the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
Combining roughly 170,000 barrels daily of condensate brought total combined production to around 1.67 million barrels each day. This success occurred notwithstanding a 4% month-on-month slide in total output relative to June figures.
Operational issues at two principal installations—the Erha and Akpo oil fields—were cited by the NUPRC as responsible for the reduction. Peak production during July reached 1.78 million barrels daily, while the trough bottomed out at 1.57 million barrels, demonstrating inconsistency in field performance throughout that period.
Three consecutive months of meeting its OPEC target represents an important accomplishment for Nigeria following earlier shortfalls that had plagued the upstream sector. By honoring the quota system—a cornerstone of OPEC's production coordination arrangement—Nigeria demonstrates operational progress even as certain facilities continue facing technical obstacles.
The month's production figures exhibited notable volatility, with swings reaching 0.21 million barrels daily between the highest and lowest registered output levels.
