AFMPN Urges Nigeria to Prioritize Public Building Maintenance

The Association of Facility Management Practitioners of Nigeria (AFMPN) has issued a statement urging the Nigerian government to cease the neglect of public buildings. Marking World FM Day 2026, AFMPN emphasized the global theme of cultivating belonging in the built environment.

Aina, a representative of AFMPN, criticized the abandonment of public infrastructure projects, which include hospitals, schools, offices, and markets. He highlighted that poor maintenance leads to safety compromises and financial losses, ultimately eroding public confidence in institutions.

Aina noted that facility management is essential for national development and called for stakeholders to invest in training and certification for facility managers. He stressed the need for stronger partnerships between the government, academia, and industry to improve the quality of facility management.

Aina warned that neglecting maintenance often results in higher long-term costs. The AFMPN reaffirmed its commitment to advancing professional standards and ensuring that Nigerians experience safe and dignified management of their environments.
