Abdulsalami Abubakar Calls for Unity Against Insecurity

Abdulsalami Abubakar, a retired General and former Head of State of Nigeria, called for national unity against insecurity in a statement released on the occasion of his 84th birthday. He expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation in Nigeria, particularly following the recent death of Major General Abubakar Rabe, also a retired Nigerian General.

Abubakar emphasized that defeating terrorism and criminal activities requires the active participation of all citizens alongside security agencies and the government. He criticized the political landscape for worsening security issues, attributing this to divisive narratives and selfish interests that hinder collective efforts.

Abubakar urged Nigerians to set aside ethnic, religious, and political differences to confront violence and instability. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to their duties despite challenges and called for sustained decisive measures to end insecurity and prevent further loss of lives.

He appealed for calm, law-abiding behavior, and prayers for the families of security personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
