Faith Leaders Unite to Combat Insecurity in Nigeria

Faith leaders and peacebuilding experts gathered in Abuja for a strategic interfaith roundtable focused on safeguarding Nigeria's religious pluralism and promoting national cohesion. The event, organized by OSPR and Concord, highlighted the urgent need for stronger interfaith collaboration to address rising insecurity and social divisions.

Hafsah Matazu, program manager at OSPR, warned of the increasing violence and instability affecting vulnerable rural communities. Chris Ngwodo, Director General of OSPR, called for a nationwide commitment to protect these communities and emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of conflict, including government failures and injustice.

Fatima Madaki, Director of the Interfaith Mission Dialogue at Concord, stressed the need for balanced local engagement amid scrutiny over religious freedom issues. The participants reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining interfaith dialogue and fostering civic partnerships to promote peace and inclusivity in Nigeria.
