Peter Obi Calls for Tinubu's Resignation Ahead of 2027

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, urged President Bola Tinubu to step aside ahead of the 2027 general election, stating that Nigeria requires a leader with the energy and capacity to tackle its escalating economic and security challenges. During an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Obi criticized Tinubu's performance, claiming that the current president lacks the capability for the job and should retire peacefully.

He highlighted Nigeria's worsening poverty, hunger, and insecurity, referencing World Bank projections that indicate 79 percent of Nigerians may face poverty. Obi stressed the importance of focusing on critical issues such as education, healthcare, and public spending, rather than political maneuvering.

He also pointed out the alarming food insecurity, with the World Food Programme estimating that 35 million Nigerians will face hunger. In response to Donald Trump's comments praising Tinubu's efforts against insecurity, Obi acknowledged the recognition but insisted that more action is necessary, citing recent mass abductions in Zamfara State as evidence of the ongoing crisis.
