Nigeria Not Ready for Full Electronic Transmission, Says Senator

Diket Plang, the senator representing Plateau Central, stated that Nigeria is not prepared for full electronic transmission of election results, advocating for the 2026 electoral law. During an interaction with journalists, he praised the president for signing the bill, which he believes provides necessary legal clarity ahead of elections.

Plang dismissed claims that the president did not fully understand the bill, asserting that the president is well-informed. He warned that premature implementation of electronic transmission could disenfranchise rural voters, who often face poor internet connectivity.

Plang also addressed recent violent attacks in the state, expressing sorrow over the loss of lives and calling for urgent national attention to security issues. He emphasized the need for increased defense funding to ensure the safety of citizens and highlighted the importance of compulsory insurance for mine workers following a tragic incident in the mining sector.
