CAF Confirms 2027 AFCON Joint Hosting by Tanzania, Uganda

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has issued a firm statement regarding the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), confirming that the tournament will be jointly hosted by Tanzania and Uganda, countering reports suggesting a postponement to 2028. CAF's executive committee, led by Motsep, reiterated its commitment to hosting the tournament in East Africa, emphasizing that significant investments have been made to ensure the necessary infrastructure and organizational framework are in place.

The upcoming AFCON will be historic as it marks the first time since 1976 that the competition will be jointly hosted by three countries. CAF is currently inspecting stadium renovations, training facilities, and transport networks in the host nations.

The tournament is scheduled for June to July 2027, aligning with CAF's broader calendar reform aimed at reducing congestion in the football schedule. The exact dates for AFCON 2027 will be announced in due course, with plans to expand the tournament to 24 teams to enhance its commercial value.
