Nigeria Police Return $23,000 in Romance Scam Case

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the return of $23,000 to a victim in an international romance scam case. The Nigerian man, Achufusi Obioma Ikenna, was accused of operating the online romance scam targeting a victim in the Cayman Islands.

The funds were recovered through a joint effort involving Interpol's National Central Bureau in Abuja. Following a formal request from the Royal Cayman Island Police Service, Nigeria assisted in the investigation, leading to Ikenna's arrest and the recovery of the stolen funds.

The recovered money was handed over to the British High Commission in Abuja for onward transmission to the victim. Ikenna will face charges in court once the ongoing investigation is concluded.

The Nigeria Police Force emphasized its commitment to intelligence-led policing and international cooperation to combat cybercrime.
