Nigerian Police Investigate Socialite in $2.5M Romance Scam Fraud

The Nigerian Police Force's Cybercrime Center has launched an investigation into Nigerian socialite Nzube Ikeji for his alleged involvement in a $2.5 million romance scam. Ikeji is accused of posing as a Dubai Crown Prince to defraud a Romanian woman named Laura.

The scam reportedly began three years ago when Laura was contacted via a LinkedIn account claiming to belong to the Dubai Crown Prince. A documentary produced by the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project detailed the elaborate scheme, leading to Ikeji's exposure.

The police, led by Uch Ifeanyi, have intensified their probe, including tracking Ikeji's movements and gathering evidence. Journalist Chikezi Omej assisted in locating Ikeji's address in Abuja.

The police are awaiting formal contact with the documentary's producers for further information. Ikeji's Instagram account and his wife were also investigated.

The police are considering possible arrests pending sufficient evidence.
