Nigeria, US Enhance Cooperation Against Narco-Terrorism

Nigeria and the United States have strengthened their partnership to combat narco-terrorism, as reaffirmed during a workshop held at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday. The workshop, led by NDLEA Chairman Maj Gen Buba Marwa, aimed to address the evolving global drug threat and produce a joint declaration outlining priorities and a coordinated action plan for the next 12 months.

Marwa highlighted the increasing complexity of the global drug trade and its strong links to terrorism, noting that illicit drug trafficking often funds terrorist activities. He emphasized Nigeria's strategic geographic location as a target for international drug trafficking organizations, with the country becoming a transit hub for drugs destined for Europe, North America, and Asia.

The workshop aimed to enhance intelligence sharing, joint operations, and training for NDLEA personnel to tackle modern drug trafficking challenges. Daphn Morrison of the DEA commended NDLEA's progress under Marwa's leadership, noting record-breaking seizures and arrests.
