Nigeria Reaffirms Commitment to UN Charter Ahead of Assembly

This commitment was highlighted during the commemoration of the 2026 International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers in Abuja, where Nigeria's Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, paid tribute to peacekeepers worldwide. Nigeria's renewed commitment comes at a time when the UN faces increasing pressure for reform amid geopolitical tensions and humanitarian crises.

The country has been an active contributor to UN peacekeeping missions since gaining independence on October 7, 1960, and continues to advocate for reforms in the UN Security Council to reflect contemporary geopolitical realities.
