Tinubu to Attend 81st UN General Assembly in New York

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to participate in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, scheduled from September 22 to September 28, 2026. The announcement was made by Nigeria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, during a briefing at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Tinubu's attendance is seen as a significant opportunity for Nigeria to showcase its economic reforms and strengthen diplomatic engagement on critical global issues, including energy, education, healthcare, and regional security. This year’s assembly will also feature discussions on international peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, and humanitarian challenges.

President Tinubu previously attended the 78th session of the UNGA in 2023, while Vice President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria at the 79th and 80th sessions. Tinubu is expected to deliver Nigeria's national statement at approximately 10:45 AM New York time during the general debate.
