Nigeria Reaffirms Support for Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic

On July 22, 2026, a bilateral meeting was held in Abuja between Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, the Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, and H.E. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).

This meeting aimed to review and strengthen the longstanding relations between Nigeria and SADR. Discussions centered on enhancing political dialogue, promoting bilateral cooperation, and advancing shared objectives for peace, stability, and sustainable development in Africa.

Ambassador Enikanolaiye reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to self-determination, decolonisation, and respect for colonial borders, aligning with African Union objectives. He noted Nigeria's consistent support for the recognition of SADR since 1984.

Beissat conveyed greetings from SADR leadership and presented a letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing gratitude for Nigeria's principled stance on African issues. Both parties agreed to explore collaboration in capacity building, economic cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges, concluding the meeting positively.
