Nigeria Commits to Strengthening West African Standby Force

Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to the establishment of an integrated, well-resourced, and civilian-inclusive standby force for West Africa. This commitment was reiterated during a high-level engagement held in Abuja, where the focus was on examining the civilian component of the force.

George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, called for the support of development partners to ensure the full operationalization of the standby force. The engagement aimed to strengthen the civilian dimension of the regional standby force and to ensure it is adequately equipped to address emerging security and humanitarian challenges across West Africa.
