APC's Alwan Hassan Defends Tinubu's Economic Reforms

At a press conference in Abuja, Mallam Alwan Hassan, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Spokesperson, defended the economic policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He stated that the President took over a country "sitting on a time bomb" and made difficult choices to prevent fiscal collapse.

Hassan argued that Tinubu's re-election is crucial for maintaining stability and warned against returning to "economic carelessness." He highlighted key reforms since 2023, including the removal of the fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange market, as necessary steps to rescue Nigeria's financial system. Hassan criticized opposition proposals, particularly from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to reverse these reforms, labeling such promises as politically dishonest.

He noted that monthly allocations from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) to various government levels have more than tripled since 2023 and emphasized the importance of a Supreme Court judgment that granted financial autonomy to local governments.
