Nigeria Launches Legal Aid Council to Enhance Justice Access

On [date not specified], the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, inaugurated the Legal Aid Council in Abuja, marking a significant step towards improving Nigeria's justice system. Fagbemi urged the board to enhance the Police Duty Solicitors Scheme (PDSS) and the Court Duty Solicitors Scheme (CDSS) to alleviate congestion in correctional facilities and expedite justice delivery. Justice Sulyman Kawu, the Board Chairman, committed to prioritizing access for poor Nigerians, especially in rural areas, despite funding challenges, aiming to protect fundamental rights and ensure justice for all.
