Ondo State Government Reforms Justice System

The Ondo State Government is undertaking significant reforms to strengthen its justice system, as announced by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa during the Post-NBA Conference Knowledge-Cascading and Interactive Session in Akure. The number of High Court judges has increased from 24 to 35, with six judges appointed in October 2024 and five more in the appointment process.

Additionally, 44 lawyers have been employed in the state’s legal service, with 20 in 2024 and 24 in 2026. The government has also reviewed magistrates' remuneration and established an Anti-Land Grabbing Task Force to protect property rights.

Investments in judicial infrastructure include a new Judiciary Complex in Akure and renovations in Okitipupa. Amendments to the Ondo State Law Commission Law and the Public Defender Law were passed in May 2026 to enhance access to justice for vulnerable citizens.

Attorney-General Dr. Kayode Ajulo emphasized the ministry's modernization efforts, including the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution to expedite legal processes and reduce costs.
