Nigeria's Biafra War Issues Linked to Poor Historical Records

On Tuesday, Sam Amadi, the Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, discussed the ongoing struggles in Nigeria related to the Biafra civil war, which lasted from July 6, 1967, to January 15, 1970. He highlighted that the lack of proper historical documentation has led to various narratives about the war, complicating the national discourse.

Amadi pointed out that the civil war, which involved Nigeria and the Republic of Biafra, was rooted in political, ethnic, cultural, and religious tensions. He criticized the national tendency to avoid confronting historical facts, stating that this has resulted in misinformation and a lack of official records regarding the war's causes.

Amadi referenced comments from Prof Falomo, a respected historian, regarding the misinformation surrounding the war's origins. He called for a national effort to document history accurately to prevent the perpetuation of myths and to foster informed political discussions.
