Nigeria Targets Sugar Self-Sufficiency by 2030

The Nigerian government, represented by Minister of State for Industry John Owan Enoh, has called on Dangote Sugar Refinery (DSR) to significantly boost its production capacity to 600,000 metric tons annually by 2030. This request was made during a visit to the DSR complex in Numan, Adamawa State, accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC), Mr.

Kamar Bakrin. The initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's directive to enhance domestic sugar production, which currently falls short of the country's annual consumption of 1.8 million metric tons.

Enoh emphasized that DSR's contributions are crucial to achieving Nigeria's sugar self-sufficiency goals. He noted the importance of infrastructure investments and the establishment of a new 6,000-ton per day sugar processing plant.

Dangote Group's Vice President, Olakunle Alak, assured the minister of the company's commitment to meeting the production target by 2030.
