Nigeria to Host 2026 CAF Awards After Morocco's Tenure

Nigeria has been selected to host the 2026 CAF Awards, ending Morocco’s four-year tenure. This event, often described as the biggest night in African football, will take place in Lagos, showcasing Nigeria's diverse infrastructure.

The presidency approved Nigeria's bid after discussions with CAF officials during an international event. The gala will gather leaders from 54 African football associations and top FIFA officials to discuss significant decisions affecting football on the continent.

The awards will honor the African Player of the Year, both male and female, as well as the Coach of the Year and the top national team. This agreement is seen as a potential catalyst for revitalizing the Nigerian football ecosystem, which has struggled due to mismanagement and lack of adequate investment.

Nigeria last hosted a FIFA tournament in 2009 and is set to hold the CAF Awards in December 2026, coinciding with the end-of-year festivities.
