Nigeria to Host CAF Meeting and Awards in October 2026

Philip Shaibu, the Director General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), commended Nigeria's successful bid to host the 48th extraordinary CAF meeting and award ceremony, set for October 2026. He acknowledged the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for this achievement, describing it as a significant milestone that enhances Nigeria's global sports image.

Shaibu noted the importance of this development in reflecting Nigeria's growing relevance in international football administration. During a strategic meeting with former Super Eagles coach Austin Eguavoen, Shaibu praised Eguavoen's extensive experience and contributions to football development in Nigeria.

He emphasized the need for sustained collaboration between the NIS and other institutions to foster progress in Nigerian sports. Eguavoen expressed gratitude for the NIS's role in shaping his professional career and commended Shaibu's leadership in driving ongoing reforms aimed at improving the future of Nigerian sports.
