Nigeria to Launch NIGCOMSAT 2A and 2B Satellites by 2029

Nigeria is set to launch two new satellites, NIGCOMSAT 2A and 2B, in 2028 and 2029, as disclosed by Jane Egerton-Idehen, the Managing Director of Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT), during the Nigerian Satellite Week in Abuja. The initiative aims to bolster military intelligence and surveillance within the region and improve connectivity.

The process for financing and implementing the satellites is currently in the tender stage. NIGCOMSAT 2A is expected to be operational by 2028, followed by NIGCOMSAT 2B in 2029.

These satellites will provide security within Nigeria's borders and support neighboring countries, enhancing real-time data collection for security agencies. This development coincides with NIGCOMSAT's 20th anniversary, marking two decades of Nigeria's involvement in the satellite industry.

The initiative reflects Nigeria's commitment to expanding its presence in the global space economy, with significant investments in technology aimed at improving digital infrastructure and connectivity across the nation and its neighbors.
