Nigeria and UK Sign Key Migration and Trade Agreements

On a recent engagement with the United Kingdom, Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, represented the federal government in signing three memoranda of understanding. These agreements cover a migration partnership framework, a border security agreement, and the expansion of business visas for UK companies operating in Nigeria.

The agreements reflect Nigeria's commitment to a transparent and structured migration system and aim to facilitate trade and investment flow between the two nations. Minister Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of achieving measurable outcomes from these agreements within a short timeframe, describing them as a model for future bilateral partnerships.

The UK Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, acknowledged Nigeria as a leading partner in bilateral relations and highlighted the shared vision for strengthening cooperation. The agreements are expected to reduce barriers, including challenges related to irregular migration, and are seen as essential steps toward achieving Nigeria's ambition of building a trillion-dollar economy.
