Nigeria Rejects Foreign Nationals in UK Immigration Deal

The Nigerian government, through presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, has clarified that Nigeria will not accept foreign nationals as part of its immigration partnership with the United Kingdom. This clarification follows the signing of a 12-page memorandum of understanding (MoU) during President Bola Tinubu's recent state visit to the UK.

The MoU aims to strengthen immigration cooperation between the two nations, focusing on the dignified return of migrants and the establishment of a framework for regular migration flows. Onanuga emphasized that the agreement does not require Nigeria to accept foreign nationals and that all repatriation processes will respect human rights and domestic laws.

The MoU outlines conditions for the return of migrants, including identification checks and the provision of flight details for repatriation. It also addresses the need for proper arrangements for the return of individuals, ensuring that their rights are upheld throughout the process.
