Nigeria and UN Enhance Partnership for Youth Empowerment

On Friday, Nigeria's Vice President Kashim Shettima received a delegation from the United Nations led by Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs Felipe Paullier at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. Shettima reaffirmed the federal government's commitment to strengthening its partnership with the UN to accelerate the empowerment of women and youth across the country.

The partnership aims to actualize initiatives in financial inclusion, skill development, peace and security, and job creation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration recognizes the potential of youth as engines of change and growth, believing that gender equality and youth empowerment are crucial for transforming Nigeria's demographic dividend.

Shettima proposed the creation of an institutional mechanism to collaborate with UN partners to advance Nigeria's objectives for youth and women. Paullier acknowledged Nigeria's vibrant youth population and its critical role in global development, highlighting the need for multi-level support from UN agencies.
