Nigeria, US Strengthen Defence Ties in Washington Talks

General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd) OFR, Nigeria's Honourable Minister of Defence, concluded high-level bilateral talks with U.S. authorities in Washington D.C. aimed at strengthening military relations and counter-terrorism cooperation. Accompanied by a Nigerian delegation that included Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, the Honourable Minister of Finance, General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff, and Lt. General Parker Udiandeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence, the discussions were held at the Pentagon.

The meetings were part of the United States–Nigeria Joint Working Group Defence Bilateral Talks, focusing on shared security architecture and intelligence collaboration. The diplomatic mission, led by National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, participated in the second meeting of the US–Nigeria Joint Working Group from August 12 to 13, 2026, co-chaired by Ribadu and Allison Hooker, U.S.

Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing dialogue and strategic alliances to combat global and regional threats.
