Nigeria Wins Three Gold Medals at African Taekwondo Champs

At the 2026 African Taekwondo Championship in Bamako, Mali, Nigeria achieved significant success, winning three gold medals, three silver medals, and three bronze medals. The tournament, sanctioned by World Taekwondo as a G4 event, took place at the Palais de Sport Salamat Maiga.

Faridah Aderibigbe claimed gold in the freestyle poomsae category, while Salawudeen Abdulafeez secured a silver in the pair poomsae event. Haruna Usman also contributed to Nigeria's gold tally by winning in the poomsae U40 male category.

Para taekwondo athlete Mathew Udom delivered Nigeria's first gold in the 57kg kyorugi category. Nigeria's bronze medals were earned by Joel Jordan in the men's 87kg kyorugi division and Chidinma Okoko in the women's 62kg kyorugi category.

Tayo Popoola, President of the Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, expressed satisfaction with the team's performance and hopes for continued success in future competitions.
