Nigeria Wins 10 Gold Medals at African Weightlifting Champs

At the African Weightlifting Championships held in Ismailia, Egypt, Nigeria's weightlifting team excelled, winning a total of 10 gold medals and five silver medals. The women's contingent led the charge, with Ruth Asuquo, Onom Didih, and Rafiat Lawal each claiming three gold medals in their categories.

Asuquo set the tone in the women's 48kg category by lifting 74kg in the snatch and 93kg in the clean and jerk, achieving a combined total of 167kg. Didih dominated the women's 53kg category with a snatch of 87kg and a clean and jerk of 105kg, totaling 192kg.

Lawal completed the clean sweep in the women's 58kg division. In the men's 65kg category, Agboro delivered a strong performance, winning gold in clean and jerk with a lift of 157kg.

Dr. Ibrahim Abdul, President of the Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and other officials for their support in developing sports in Nigeria.
