Nigeria Wins Four Golds at African Wrestling Championship

Nigeria's wrestling team commenced the African Senior Wrestling Championship in Alexandria with an impressive display, clinching four out of five available gold medals on the opening day of women's events. Esther Kolawole dominated the 62kg category, defeating South Africa's Katelyn Swan 10-0 to secure her fifth African title, reinforcing Nigeria's status as a leading wrestling nation.

Christianah Ogunsanya set the tone for Nigeria's strong start by winning the first gold medal in the 53kg category, overcoming Ivory Coast's Nogona Bakayoko 7-1. Jumok Adekoy followed suit in the 57kg division with an 8-4 victory against Algeria's Achouak Tekouk.

Hannah Ojo completed the quartet of victories in the 73kg category, edging out Cameroon’s Pelagi Wilita 3-1. Additionally, Nigeria's Hannah Reuben earned a silver medal after a 6-0 defeat against Benin's Kawiyat Issif.

Bashir Adeniyi, President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, praised the athletes for their discipline and commitment, while Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria's First Lady, encouraged young women to excel in sports.
