Nigerian Army Named Africa's Best Counter-Terrorism Force 2025

The Nigerian Army has been awarded the title of Africa’s Best National Army in Counter-Terrorism Operations for 2025 by African Security Watch, a continental security organization. This recognition was presented to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday by Major General Teriworie Gagariga, who had received the award during the African Security Watch Awards Ceremony in Banjul, The Gambia.

According to Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, this award reflects the Army's operational achievements and strategic leadership in combating terrorism and violent extremism in Nigeria. Lieutenant General Shaibu described the award as a testament to the courage and professionalism of Nigerian Army personnel and dedicated it to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service.

He reaffirmed the Army's commitment to enhancing its operational capabilities and maintaining its role as a model for addressing security challenges in the region.
